5 of the Most Naturally Beautiful Places I’ve Ever Been:

And would LOVE to go back to! Grad school keeps you pretty cooped up. Although, being in school does entitle you to school related breaks, (Christmas! :D) which are absolutely wonderful. Nevertheless, I was feeling nostalgic and travel hungry and … Continue reading

Until Next Time Nashville

Until Next Time Nashville

This is the beautiful view from Centennial Dog Park. You can see the Parthenon and the city skyline!

The Music City sure has been fun this week and we can’t wait for our next visit!

Now we’re headed back to Birmingham and have a busy weekend ahead of us. My family is coming in town for my Uncle’s wedding party. They had a small wedding in Maine this summer and now it’s time to party! It’s also Sundance’s 1st birthday party on Sunday! I know, I know but I can’t help it 😉 And then it’s back to school on Monday… I’m feeling a little less enthusiasm for this one but what can you do, vacations have to end sometime. And honestly I really am excited for my musculoskeletal class and the manual therapy we’ll be covering this fall.

Oh, and one other perk to fall semester beginning is that college football is just around the corner. Gotta love those silver linings, GO NOLES!

Travel: Food Post!

We went back to fido for food! I got the Eden salad which is loaded with apples, berries, figs, walnuts, parmesan, feta, and a caramel-champagne vinaigrette.

This salad was so refreshing I only wish I’d had more. I always love fruit on a salad especially in the summer, and this one is no exception. The dried figs were something tasty and different and in my opinion their caramel-champagne vinaigrette was outstanding.

Brad got the Local Burger and fries. His burger was ground beef and lamb, tennessee cheddar, caramelized fennel, fig aioli, fried onion, pickles, and lettuce.

The fries and the burger were both very, very good and came with a different but delicious dipping sauce. The cool thing about fido’s menu is that it is very original and true to local ingredients. Not to mention we haven’t even cracked the breakfast menu (my mouth watered just reading it ;)). Basically, we’ll be back on future visits.

I got a Hot & Cold combo!

Brad got strawberry and I got bananas and cream dipped in Olive and Sinclair chocolate. OMG it was awesome! The chocolate is very dark chocolate and not overly sweet and paired perfectly with my banana paleta 😀

Loved all the dog references, adorable.

My dear boy got his books today (poor kid ;)) and he’s already loaded with reading assignments. So we were on the hunt for a local coffee shop where he could study and Sunny and I could enjoy the weather, and we stumbled on fido! This ex-pet shop turned coffee house is a Nashville favorite. I got an iced coffee, which was great! But we hear the food is pretty awesome too, and after seeing some of the burgers and fries we’re pretty sure we’ll head back for dinner before we head out of town.

Official “welcome to grad school” reading.

I should mention that I have a mild cold dessert addiction. I LOVE ice cream, popsicles, slushes, sno-balls you name it :D. And as luck would have it Hot & Cold is right next door to fido, also owned by Bongo-Java, and they serve all kinds of Nashville’s favorite desserts: Las PaletasJeni’s Splendid Ice Cream and Olive & Sinclair chocolate are all Nashville originals. I may have a minor addiction but I can only tolerate so much sweetness, so for my first visit I opted for a Chai mini-popsicle and it was delicious! I’m a big fan of Chai, Brad however believes that Chai is what potpourri would taste like if he were forced to eat it… he didn’t care much for my popsicle. Next time we go I’m definitely going to try one of their recommended combinations.

  • A paleta dipped in Bongo Java coffee or topped with magic shell made from Olive & Sinclair chocolate.
  • A scoop of Jeni’s with an espresso or Olive & Sinclair magic shell.
  • A frozen banana dipped in Olive & Sinclair magic shell.

My Las Paleta really reminded me of one of our favorite Birmingham sweet treats, Steel City Pops, and I just thought I’d mention that if you’re ever in Homewood, Al and like a good popsicle be sure to check them out.
